Daniel Dubois tells Oleksandr Usyk he is "a superior and more dangerous fighter' ahead of rematch

Daniel Dubois is seeking retribution as he prepares for a heavyweight unification bout against Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium on July 19.

The British pugilist, who currently holds the IBF title, has been eager for a second chance against the WBA, WBO and WBC champion, following his ninth-round defeat in their previous encounter in August 2023.

The two fighters have now agreed to a rematch at the national stadium and are set to appear together at a press conference on Tuesday.

Dubois' team, headed by promoter Frank Warren, expressed dissatisfaction with the circumstances surrounding the 27 year old's prior loss in Poland. Referee Luis Pabon controversially ruled a fifth-round knockdown of Usyk as a low blow, granting him an extended recovery period - a decision that was hotly disputed afterwards.

Since that setback, Dubois has made a strong comeback, defeating Jarrell Miller, securing the vacant IBF title with a victory over Filip Hrgovic, and triumphing over Anthony Joshua at Wembley. Meanwhile, Usyk hasn't stepped into the ring since his win over Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia last December.

"This is the fight I wanted and demanded and now I get my chance for revenge against Oleksandr Usyk," declared Dubois.

"I should have won the first fight and was denied by the judgement of the referee, so I will make no mistake this time around in front of my people at the national stadium in my home city.

"I am a superior and more dangerous fighter now and Usyk will find this out for himself on July 19. I would like to thank my promoter Frank for making this happen for me and I intend to repay him by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world."

Usyk, victorious in his last unification match against Fury in May with a split decision and triumphing again seven months later, is keen to reclaim his full title set.

"I'm grateful to God for the opportunity to once again fight for the undisputed championship," he expressed.

"Thank you, Daniel, for taking care of my IBF belt – now I want it back."

The possibility of bringing the two fighters back into the ring gained traction last month following reports that a petition had been submitted to the WBO for approval of the Dubois-Usyk bout, superseding a planned mandatory defence against Joseph Parker.

Dubois had been contemplating an all-British clash with Derek Chisora if his rematch with the Ukrainian had not materialised.

A press conference pitting the two boxers face-to-face is set for Tuesday, with tickets for the highly anticipated fight going on sale the next day.
