Derby County's Jerry Yates scores their side's second goal against West Brom

John Eustace delivers victory verdict as Derby County prepare for huge Hull and Stoke clashes

by · Derbyshire Live

John Eustace hailed the character of his Derby County players as they claimed a “fantastic” victory against West Brom.

The Rams bounced back from their Good Friday defeat to Luton Town to beat West Brom 3-1 at The Hawthorns on Easter Monday.

Ebou Adams, Jerry Yates and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing were all on target for Eustace’s side as they claimed a precious three points in their Championship survival bid.

The victory ensures they remain above the relegation zone on goal difference - in 21st place - with two huge matches left to play against Hull City (20th) and Stoke City (17th).

“I’m very proud of everyone connected with the team and the football club,” said Eustace.

“I thought it was a group effort. To come here and do what we did today was really pleasing.

“The character of the group (was great). We knew that West Brom would dominate the ball, dominate possession, but we had a game plan, and we stuck to that game plan.

“Ultimately, we got a fantastic victory. But it's full credit to the players.

“The players were disappointed after Friday's results.

“To come back in the fashion that we did today and get three points just shows how connected everyone is and how everyone wants to do well for this fantastic football club.”
