Seattle weather: Temperatures to cool down after first 90-degree day

by · The Seattle Times

Is Seattle showing off for our World Cup guests?

We’re kicking off the city’s first game day with record heat, but for the rest of the week, temperatures will cool into that warm, sunny weather Seattle summers are known for.

Monday will likely be our first 90-degree day of the year while a thermal trough is in town for Egypt vs. Belgium at Seattle Stadium, thanks to some warming easterly winds that have sunk down from the Cascades, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dana Felton.

Come Monday night, those winds will switch direction and bring in air off the ocean, where waters are about 50 degrees, Felton said.

“That’ll be the end of that,” he said.

It’ll still be warm for this time of year, as the average temperature is usually about 70 degrees, but Tuesday and Wednesday will cool down to the upper 70s, Felton said. A weak upper level ridge will hover over us Wednesday and we could see some clouds in the morning.

Thursday and Friday will warm up slightly, bringing highs into the low 80s, but “I think most people around here would consider 80 to be pretty nice,” Felton said.

Good thing, because Seattle’s next game is Friday when the U.S.A. takes on Australia.
