Three Things to Know
- Milroe put up some big numbers in two years as a starter for the Crimson Tide and was projected by some to be a first-round pick after leading the team with 726 rushing yards last season. Milroe had a program-record 33 career rushing touchdowns as a QB and 1,579 yards on the ground while throwing for 6,016 yards and 45 touchdowns in 38 career games. He ranks third in Alabama program history with an average of 199.8 yards per game, and his 7,593 total yards ranked fifth all-time for the school.
- Milroe won the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2024, which is awarded each year to the college player who had the best combination of academic success, on-field performance, and leadership. The award is also widely known as the “Academic Heisman.”
- Milroe finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2023 after throwing for 2,834 yards and 23 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore, while rushing for 12 more scores and 531 yards. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the award that year, with University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix finishing second.
Quote to note
“Not too many people can say this, but I can say this proudly, I never lost a game back-to-back in my entire life playing football. Why I mention that is because of course you’re going to have failure, you’re going to have lessons throughout your time of playing football. It’s how you regroup and how you regroup from adversity. My theme of my whole life is next play mentality. Not leaning on failures to drive me. That’s something that’s been emphasized from my whole time of playing football.” — Milroe when asked what lessons he learned from his final season playing at Alabama.
What the scouts say
“Milroe is an explosive athlete who is very capable outside the pocket, but he lacks accuracy, touch and decision-making when he’s inside the pocket. A lack of anticipation and timing leads to interceptions and contested throws to intermediate areas of the field. He has an NFL arm, but he might need to fine-tune his footwork and delivery to improve accuracy on all three levels. He can get through his reads when he’s confident and feels protected but becomes predictable and easier for defenses to manipulate when he’s rattled. He’s built like a Will linebacker, runs like a receiver and is a threat to hit the home run on called runs and scrambles. Milroe was a much better deep-ball passer in 2023, but his 2024 regression makes it harder to project success from the pocket at a high enough rate to become a capable NFL starter. A strong arm and elite speed will have teams intrigued, but if he doesn’t make it as a starter, it’s incumbent upon his team to find a way to get the ball in his hands with packaged plays.” — NFL.com
