Seahawks: Sam Darnold knocked out of season opener vs. Patriots
by Tim Booth · The Seattle TimesThe latest: Coach Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks received “great news” on Sam Darnold’s injury.
Sam Darnold’s season opener lasted just one drive.
When he returns to the field is any guess at this point, but it won’t be on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks starting QB limped to the locker room midway through the first quarter after suffering a right hip injury when he was sacked to end the first possession of the season.

Darnold was ruled out for the game just before halftime.
Darnold was sacked by former Seahawks Dre’Mont Jones and appeared to have his foot/ankle get caught as he was tackled. Darnold jogged to the sideline with a limp and after an extended examination in the blue injury tent made his way back to the locker room. While it appeared to be an injury to his lower part of his leg, it was announced as a hip injury by the team.
Darnold never returned to the sideline during the first half, leaving Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe as the only quarterbacks available for the remainder of the game.
Darnold completed 1 of 2 passes for 13 yards before the injury.
Lock took over at quarterback for his first extensive action since the 2024 season when he started five games for the Giants. Lock finished the first half 6 of 8 passing for 51 yards. He was also sacked once.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after the game they had ruled out a fractured hip but had no other updates on his return.
