What Dan Wilson said about not returning as Mariners manager

Dan Wilson will not return as Mariners manager in 2027. Wilson and the team issued statements confirming the change after Sunday’s season finale at T-Mobile Park.

Wilson issued the following statement at his postgame news conference:

This season has been very difficult, and of course, the results have not been what any of us have expected. As a result, it was concluded that today is my last day as manager of the Seattle Mariners.

I’m still processing this with my family, and it’s a very difficult day. We love this city. We love this community, and we appreciate the organization for what it has meant to the family since coming here as a player in ’94. We feel extremely blessed by all the opportunities we’ve been afforded. We’ve raised our family here, and we will continue to call Seattle home.

First, I just want to thank my wife, who has been my rock and solid foundation through this baseball journey, jumping back into baseball brought many obstacles, but we weathered them together. And thank you for everything. It’s always better together. 

Secondly, I’d like to thank the incredible coaching staff and support staff that has worked so tirelessly over these last couple years. They have stuck with it and they have stuck with me through thick and thin. My gratitude cannot accurately be expressed for their countless hours of analyzing video, working with players and making us better on the field. I will cherish each relationship with these staff members, and I wish them all continued success going forward. Thank you for giving all of yourselves every day. 

I also wish to thank the special group of players in that clubhouse. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with you over these last couple seasons. You are an incredibly talented group and have shown overwhelming resiliency over the last couple seasons. You fight, and it is exactly that fight that will bring you back to prominence. Thank you for all your dedication and hard work every day, and thank you for fighting as you did each and every ball game. I love all of you and your families, and pray for continued blessings as you continue on with your baseball journeys. 

Lastly, I’d like to thank the Seattle fans. You are our inspiration. Hearing T-Mobile Park back in October last year and seeing the support you gave us, even during a difficult season, is greatly appreciated. Thank you for always being there. I don’t know what the future holds. The Mariners organization has expressed interest in a role going forward, and I look forward to investigating those options in the future.
