Carrick has emerged as the favourite to become Manchester United manager until the end of the season. It will be his first job after being sacked by Middlesbrough last summer.

MIKE KEEGAN: The former player was in the city today finalising a deal which will see him take charge at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season, following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

Carrick is however leading and may be named in the next few hours.

He emerged as the frontrunner after the club also spoke to their former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about the role.
