The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said "the World Cup is not for sale" and warned that its national teams would boycott the tournament if FIFA goes ahead with its private investor proposal.

Pinnick, who serves as deputy chairperson of FIFA's Men's National Teams Competitions Committee, said FIFA president Gianni Infantino had consistently introduced reforms that had benefited football associations across the world.

UEFA warns of a potential boycott of FIFA competitions over plans for private ownership of the World Cup, which it claims undermines the tournament's legacy.

Uefa said its position will not change until Fifa’s proposal is abandoned.

Gianni Infantino has set a 19 September deadline for its member associations over the plan.
