Microsoft: Windows 11 24H2 now ready to rollout to everyone
by Sergiu Gatlan · BleepingComputerMicrosoft announced over the weekend that the Windows 11 24H2 update is ready to roll out to all compatible PCs, excluding those with safeguard holds.
Also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, this release will now be offered to all Windows devices that aren't configured to defer feature updates.
"We have reached the last phase of the gradual rollout for version 24H2 via Windows Update on Settings. If your device is ready for the update, you'll see the option to Download and install Windows 11, version 24H2. Note that some devices temporarily may not show the update to version 24H2 if we detect an incompatibility," Microsoft announced on the Windows release health over the weekend.
"Devices running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, versions 23H2, 22H2, and 21H2 that are not managed by IT departments will receive the update to version 24H2 automatically. You can choose the time to restart your device or postpone the update."
Upgrade blocks prompted by incompatible hardware and software are still available on Windows PCs with integrated cameras, Dirac audio improvement software, and running security or enterprise software using SenseShield Technology's sprotect.sys driver or the Easy Anti-Cheat and Safe Exam Browser applications.
You can find out if your system is eligible for the Windows 11 2024 Update using the PC Health Check app or by checking the Windows 11 specifications and system requirements.
If you want to manually install this Windows 11 feature update, go to the Windows Update Settings dialog and click "Check for Updates." If the device is ready and there are no safeguard holds, you should see an option to "Download and install."
Microsoft provides a guided walk-through and a support document to help customers resolve any issues experienced during the upgrade.
Windows 11 24H2 started rolling out in May 2024 for enterprise testing to customers enrolled in the Windows Insider Release Preview Channel of the Windows Insider Program for Business and was released as a complete operating system swap for other customers in October.
New features shipping with the Windows 11 2024 Update include additional AI-powered capabilities, an enhanced Energy Saver, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, improved Hearing Aid support with Bluetooth LE Audio, and HDR background support.
It also comes with Windows Search, which understands natural language and an overhauled experience for its controversial AI-powered Windows Recall feature.
The Windows 11 2024 Update also rolled out to all eligible PCs running Windows 10 22H2 in late January 2025 as part of the broad deployment stage, less than a week after the company announced that it would start force-installing Windows 11 24H2 on eligible, unmanaged systems running the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2.
