Met Eireann says the weather over the next day will be generally bright and sunny with some light rain.

However, conditions will remain chilly at night, dropping below zero and creating frost and icy patches.

Today (Thursday February 27) will be mainly dry, but tonight temperatures could drop to as low as -2 degrees.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Cold this morning with some frost and icy patches. Today will be mainly dry with plenty of sunshine and just a few passing light showers. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light west to northwest winds.

"Tonight will be mainly dry with long clear spells and just isolated light showers. Frost and some icy patches will form as temperatures fall to between -2 and +2 degrees. Patches of mist and fog will develop too, in light and variable winds."

Tomorrow (Friday February 28) will see frost and ice clear to pave the way for a sunny day. However, rain will hit at night time.

Met.ie says: "Frost, ice, mist and fog will clear tomorrow morning. It will be a largely dry day with sunny spells, turning hazy later. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening near Atlantic coasts.

"After a dry start, outbreaks of rain will develop in the northwest and will extend across much of Ulster, Connacht and west Munster overnight. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 7 degrees, coldest in the southeast, with light to moderate southerly winds."

Saturday (March 1) will see rain clear to make way for sunshine. It will be another cold night, however.

The weather forecast reads: "The rain will continue moving southeast across the rest of the country on Saturday morning, becoming lighter and patchy as it does so, and will be followed by drier and brighter weather. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds, turning northwesterly after the rain.

"Dry with clear spells [on Saturday night]. Some frost and icy patches will form with lowest temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees. Patches of mist and fog will develop too in light and variable winds."

Sunday (March 2) will see highs of 9 to 12 degrees and it won't be as cold overnight either:

"Generally dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresh at times near Atlantic coasts.

"Becoming cloudier [on Sunday night], with some patchy light rain or drizzle in the west and north. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 8 degrees, coldest in the southeast, with light to moderate southwesterly winds."

At the moment, Monday (March 3) looks set to be "drier with some brighter spells in the south" with temperatures ranging between 10 and 13 degrees.
