Major London airport announces 100ml liquid limit hand luggage change

It's good news for flyers this morning as one of London's busiest airports, Gatwick, have announced changes to their security procedures.

We all dread trying to fit our liquids into containers under 100ml, then trying to squash those containers into an one litre plastic bag.

Now, thanks to security upgrades, people flying out of Gatwick will no longer have to use the plastic bag for their handy luggage liquids. Instead, they can bring as many 100ml containers as they like.

On Gatwick's website, they stated the new rule change.

"There is no specific limit on how many containers you can carry through. If you do take liquids in your hand luggage containers must hold no more than 100ml.

"Due to new security screening technology, these no longer need to be placed in a clear plastic bag at London Gatwick. This means you may leave your liquids inside your cabin luggage when passing through security."

However, the airport warned that many airports around the world have not got this upgraded scanning technology yet, so you might still need to use plastic bags elsewhere.

It will signal good news for Irish flyers returning home however - feel free to stock up on beauty products while in London!

Gatwick also have another rule change which will make flights easier for passengers - you no longer have to remove large electronic equipment from your carry-on luggage during security screening.

Previously, passengers were asked to take laptops, e-readers and tablets out of their bags for inspection, but this is no longer required.

New rules for liquids and electronics in Dublin Airport due to new security scanners

This will save some valuable time while moving through airport security queues.

If you are curious as to what Dublin Airport's rules are, they are different to Gatwick's, and depend on what terminal you're flying out of.

In Terminal 1, all liquids must be under 100mls, and put into a clear one litre bag (no bigger than 20cm x 20cm) and placed visibly within the security tray. Each passenger is limited to a single one litre bag only.

Meanwhile, large electrical items such as laptops and tablets need to be taken out of bags and placed in the security tray.

If you are flying out of terminal two, you can take as much 100ml liquids as you like. While all liquids must be under 100mls and put into a clear bag on the tray, there is no limit on the number of bags or 100mls containers that a passenger can take through.

All electrical items can be left in hand luggage when passing through Terminal 2's security.
