Ireland weather: Met Éireann forecasts dry and settled week before major U-turn

by · Irish Mirror

Met Éireann has warned of a U-turn in the weather, with bouts of rain set for the weekend after a dry week.

The national forecaster has said Ireland is in store for a mostly dry week, with temperatures reaching up to 16C during the coming days.

Unfortunately, anyone hoping for the dry weather to stick around won’t be happy as rain is forecast to return over the weekend - but it is still uncertain how much rain might pour down on the country.

Met Éireann has said it will turn unsettled from Friday with showers expected to develop in the south at first, becoming widespread later, continuing into Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said that while a return to wet conditions over the weekend is likely after a dry week, it remains uncertain how much rain we'll get.

He wrote in a post on X: "In Ireland we have very little rain up to Friday but then we will likely see rain return, however how much rain we see over the weekend is uncertain yet with weather models struggling to agree on position of low system that will bring the rain towards us.”

Check out the Met Éireann forecast for the week ahead below.

Tuesday

Mainly dry today with just isolated showers in the southwest. After a cloudy start better sunshine will develop through the day. Highest temperatures 7C to 10C in mostly moderate east to southeast winds, fresh near western and southern coasts, easing this evening.

Dry, cold and mostly clear tonight. Some frost is expected with lowest temperatures of minus 2C to plus 4C, in a light easterly or variable breeze. A few mist and fog patches may also develop.

Wednesday

Any frost, mist and fog soon clears up to a dry and mostly sunny day on Wednesday, although some patchy cloud may affect southern coastal counties at times. Highest temperatures 11C to 15C, in mostly light easterly breezes, but moderate, occasionally fresh, in Munster.

Dry and clear to start Wednesday night, becoming cloudier towards morning. Lowest temperatures plus 1C to 6C, coldest in the north. Some mist and fog patches will form in light easterly breezes.
