One in hospital after high-speed Kawarau Gorge crash

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said three crews from Cromwell were called to a crash involving three vehicles on the Gibbston Highway (State Highway 6) about 10.30am.
It was reported the crash was "high-velocity" and two of the cars had collided at speed, the spokesman said.
A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said two ambulances had responded and one person was taken to Lakes District Hospital in a moderate condition.
Four other people had sustained minor injuries, she said.
Two ambulances assessed patients at the scene, between Waitiri Rd and Cardrona-Roaring Meg Pack Track.
Initial indications had been of four people with moderate injuries and one person with minor injuries.
The road was down to one lane for a time but in an update about 12.30pm NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advised it had fully reopened.
*A single-car crash was reported at Roaring Meg in the Kawarau Gorge about 4.20am today and one person received minor injuries.
