Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses video leaked ahead of Meta Connect
Every year, Meta announces new hardware and software updates at the Meta Connect event. That happens to be this week, but details of some announcements have already surfaced in advance. Yesterday, it was confirmed that at least one new smart glasses would be showcased.
Meta Ray-Ban Display
Eagle eyes at UploadVR have spotted a new pair of smart glasses set to be announced at Meta's annual conference. This wearable features a heads-up display (HUD) that's paired to and controlled by an sEMG wristband. Moreover, the so-called Meta Ray-Ban Display has a monocular, meaning the 'display' is only projected to one eye. Specifically, it's displayed in the right lens and captures images or visuals using the camera near the right lens.
"Why one eye instead of both?" you may ask. Presumably for safety reasons, a monocular design allows users to wear it and still see properly while moving outdoors. The leaked video clip has since been removed, but not before giving the Internet a taste of what the wearable can do. In the leaked video, you can see the user using gesture controls, which are possible with the wristband acting as the movement sensor. Users can also write messages using their fingers.
Still an expensive toy
Although the idea is cool, smart glasses aren't something most would want. It's also not affordable for the average consumer, with its expected launch price of USD 800 (~RM3365). Still, it could have some utility when travelling and searching for information.
