DJI Mini 5 Pro release - 50MP 1-inch sensor, Med-Tele mode, 225° gimbal rotation, and more from ~RM3963

Looking for a smaller and more compact drone that's still powerful? Well, DJI's latest Mini series flying drone could be the option. The company launched its new DJI Mini 5 Pro today for the global market, so here are some details for you to chew on.

A world's first

The DJI Mini 5 Pro has a lot going for it, being the world's first mini camera drone to feature a 1-inch CMOS sensor. This 50MP camera also has a f/1.8 aperture, which should combine well with the large sensor to deliver much greater low-light performance. This is impressive considering the drone's relatively compact size of 255×181×91mm when unfolded (with propellers).

In addition, the Mini 5 Pro has a new 48mm Med-Tele mode that delivers better zoom shots than its predecessor. Specifically, this mode has 2x zoom with higher digital zoom resolution, which should result in improved textures for zoom shots. The new Med-Tele mode also works with DJI's portrait optimisation tech for enhanced brightness, contrast, and skin tones in portrait shots.

Another notable feature is the camera gimbal. It can dynamically rotate for 225°, allowing users to capture more creative footage. Besides the above, the DJI Mini 5 Pro offers up to 14 stops of dynamic range, slow-motion video recording at 4K/120fps, and 10-bit video recording using H.265 encoding.

Price and availability

Currently, the price and availability for the DJI Mini 5 Pro in Malaysia are unknown. However, it was confirmed that the new model retails in Europe for 799 Euros (~RM3963). Additionally, the DJI Mini 4 Pro launched in Malaysia for RM3399. If DJI follows the same price range, we expect the Mini 5 Pro to sell here for sub-RM4k.
