Apple might add 'Siri' to the Camera App via iOS 27

Apple is reportedly developing a new Siri mode in the Camera app, which will launch as part of iOS 27. That said, what should you know about it?

The Visual Intelligence feature could be more accessible for the next iPhone releases

According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this Siri mod will be available as an additional option alongside existing mods such as Photo, Video, Portrait, Cinematic and others. Currently, the Visual Intelligence feature on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence can only be accessed through the Camera Control, Control Centre, Lock Screen or Action Button, making it somewhat hidden for most users.

Thanks to iOS 27, Apple plans to move the feature directly into the Camera app, which will be rebranded as Siri mode. Like the existing Visual Intelligence, this new mode allows users to point the camera at an object and leverage services like ChatGPT to ask questions, or run a Google reverse image search to get more information.

Moreover, existing features are already capable of doing many things, such as converting concert poster details into calendar events, identifying plants and animals, and displaying business information like phone numbers or restaurant menus.

Apple might redesign everything, though

Besides that, Apple is said to be redesigning the entire experience of using the feature. A new shutter button based on the Apple Intelligence logo will replace the round white button used on Visual Intelligence today. The Camera Control shortcut will also remain functional, but it will continue to open Siri mode within the camera app, rather than a separate interface.

In addition to integration into the Camera app, Apple is also reportedly expanding the feature with additional capabilities, including scanning nutrition labels on food packaging to record dietary information. All of this is expected to be officially announced at WWDC 2026 on June 8, 2026, before being launched to users in the fall of this year.
