WhatsApp is testing automatic message translations
Software companies are all about introducing new features. Some are crucial or useful, but there are those that are gimmicky or pointless. WhatsApp is the same with its constant updates, and how handy its latest one ends up being could be up for debate.
Automatic translations
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is beta testing an automatic message translation in iOS. Once enabled, WhatsApp can automatically translate messages or channel updates into your preferred language. The feature currently supports translations to and from 21 languages, including English. Of course, users must set the language they want to automatically translate and the language to translate it to.
For your info, the option to translate messages or channel updates was already added last year. However, this beta update simplifies the process by automating it. If you're interested, download the iOS 26.11.10.70 version of the WhatsApp beta app via the TestFlight app to try the update yourself.
How to enable it
To access the feature, go to the intended chat or channel's info screen. Next, scroll down to the "Translate messages" option and enable it. Finally, select the language you want to translate from and to. For example, you can choose to automatically translate Spanish to English.
Honestly, this feature seems more relevant to businesses, polyglots learning a new language, or individuals who have to regularly communicate with foreigners. The average WhatsApp user is unlikely to find it useful, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
