Netflix has again announced an increase in prices across all its subscription plans in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. The new pricing was revealed through the company’s latest Q4 2024 earnings report. According to Netflix, the increased prices align with the company's efforts to maximise revenue while continuing to invest in its programming and platform improvements.

In the United States, Netflix has increased the Standard plan with ads to $7.99 per month, up from $6.99. The price of the Standard plan, offering ad-free 1080p HD video, has also risen from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. Meanwhile, the Premium plan, the only option supporting 4K streaming, has been increased from $22.99 to $24.99. Similar price adjustments are expected for Netflix users in other countries, including Canada.

Netflix has cited these new price revisions as part of its efforts to improve its platform. “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix. To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024),” the company said in its report.

Notably, the increase in Netflix's prices comes just over a year after the company not only raised the cost of its Standard and Premium plans but also introduced a new ad-supported plan. With the new ad-supported plan, Netflix removed the Basic ad-free plan, requiring users to either pay more for an ad-free experience or opt for the ad-supported tier, in an effort to increase revenue through both subscriptions and ad revenue.

However, the new price hike does not apply to Indian users. For now, Indian users can continue using Netflix with the currently available subscription plans. For context, in India, Netflix offers four plans – Mobile, Basic, Standard, and Premium.

The Mobile plan is priced at Rs 149 per month and offers fair video quality with 480p resolution. However, the plan only supports one device, either a mobile or tablet, at a time within a household.

The Basic plan is priced at Rs 199 in India, offering 720p resolution and support for TV, computer, mobile, and tablet devices. However, only one device can stream at a time within a household.

The Standard plan is priced at Rs 499 and offers 1080p HD resolution. It supports all devices and allows two devices to stream simultaneously within a household.

Lastly, the Premium plan is priced at Rs 649 per month, offering 4K resolution, spatial audio, and support for up to four streaming devices simultaneously within a household. At any time, content can be downloaded on up to seven devices.
