Google is set to unveil its latest affordable smartphone, the Pixel 9a, today, March 19. The company has not put out any official details about the launch yet, but multiple leaks have suggested that the launch will take place today, with the devices expected to go on sale starting March 26. Ahead of the launch event, there have also been several leaks that reveal key specifications of the Pixel 9a. In fact, on Monday, a whole unboxing video was released that claimed to reveal the phone in its full glory.

We should take all this information with a pinch of salt. However, some leaks align so well that the chances of them being accurate increase significantly. As we wait a few more hours for Google to officially reveal everything about the Pixel 9a, let’s have a look at some of the most reliable leaks we’ve seen so far.

Pixel 9a: Expected price in India

The Pixel 9a will reportedly be priced at $499 (approximately Rs 43,100) for the 128GB model, and $599 (about Rs 51,800) for the 256GB version in the US. If Google follows its past pricing strategy, the India pricing could start at Rs 52,999 for the base model, with the 256GB variant potentially going up to around Rs 64,000.

In terms of colour options, the Pixel 9a is expected to arrive in Iris, Obsidian, Peony, and Porcelain for the 128GB version, while the 256GB model could be limited to Iris and Obsidian.

Pixel 9a: Leaked specifications and features

The Pixel 9a is tipped to bring a host of changes over its predecessor, the Pixel 8a. A recent leaked unboxing video revealed that Google is moving away from its traditional design language. The Pixel 9a will reportedly sport a flat rear panel with no pronounced camera bump, giving it a sleeker, more minimalistic look. It will feature a flat frame similar to the iPhone design. However, as per the unboxing video, the Pixel 9a will sport large bezels around its 6.3-inch AMOLED display, which if true may divide opinion, as they feel slightly dated compared to other mid-range competitors.

The display will likely offer a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone’s design is in line with the leaked design of the upcoming Pixel 9 and 9 Pro with rounded edges and visible antenna lines.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is said to feature Google’s Tensor G4 chipset paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options are expected to include 128GB and 256GB variants. The smartphone is also expected to sport Google’s Titan M2 chip for security.

For photography enthusiasts, the Pixel 9a is rumoured to include a 48-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens. According to leaks, early camera tests have shown solid performance in both photos and videos. The phone is also expected to offer an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, making it more durable than some previous Pixel A-series devices.

Battery life is set to improve as well. The Pixel 9a is likely to house a larger 5,100mAh battery compared to the Pixel 8a’s 4,500mAh unit. The device is expected to support 23W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging.
