- The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is not expected to arrive on this day
- The Slim model is rumoured to debut in May this year
Samsung is likely to take the wraps off three new Samsung Galaxy S25 models at its latest Unpacked event, which has been the case with every flagship release. However, there have been rumours that this year's event could also see the launch of a new smartphone - Galaxy S25 Slim. But, is it really coming? Well, fresh leaks have suggested that Samsung is preparing to launch the new Slim model in May this year. What this means is that we may not see it debuting at tomorrow's Samsung Galaxy S25 launch event, but there are chances that the company could tease it to surprise its fans. In the recent past, Samsung has done something similar with its smart ring. The brand first teased it at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series and the product was then shown off at MWC 2024 event and later made available on shelves. Here are 5 things you should know about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim launching soon: 5 things to know
Biggest design upgrade?
The leaks have claimed that the Galaxy S25 Slim will have the slimmest design that people have ever seen on a Samsung smartphone. It could have 6.4mm thickness, which is a bit lower than 6mm thickness rumoured for the iPhone 17 Air model but it is still quite impressive if the company is able to achieve it. The device is likely to appeal to those who are in favour of a very slim profile and lightweight design. But, a slim form factor also means that you might get a smaller battery, downgraded heat dissipation system, and lower camera quality over other S25 models because the company would have less space to fit in the best of tech in a thin frame. Also, the slimmer body could also make it more fragile and prone to damage. But, this is why companies like Samsung and Apple could be taking time to launch such smartphones because there are challenges that they need to address.
Also, it is good to see Samsung experimenting with something new in the flagship range to offer users a better experience. However, whether this turns into a reality is something that remains to be seen.
Display
The Galaxy S25 Slim is tipped to come with a 6.7-inch display, which also means that this model could have a larger screen compared to the 6.3-inch panel rumoured for the standard Galaxy S25.
While specifics about the display technology remain undisclosed, the Slim model is at least expected to come with support for an adaptive refresh rate that adjusts from 1Hz to 120Hz. This would allow for a smoother scrolling experience while also conserving some battery life when a lower refresh rate hits based on the content. Samsung has always offered an AMOLED panel, even with mid-range devices, so the Slim variant won't be an exception.
New chipset?
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is rumoured to use the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which would be a good move by Samsung because Qualcomm chips have proven to offer solid raw performance out of the box. However, it is currently unknown whether the company is planning to offer this chip in selected markets. We could see Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S25 Slim in some markets, but nothing is confirmed right now.
A flagship camera?
Leaked reports suggest the Galaxy S25 Slim might feature a 200-megapixel main camera, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While it is unclear if additional lenses will fit the device’s slim body, Samsung's upcoming ALoP (All Lenses on Prism) technology could enable a sleeker, thinner build with a good camera setup. Expected to debut at MWC 2025, this tech may allow the Slim to maintain high-end camera performance without compromising its slim design. But, there is no solid information on the camera bit, so users are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt.
What could be its price? Will it be positioned in Galaxy S25 series?
There is a rumour that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could be a replacement for the Galaxy FE models. On the contrary, there are also reports suggesting that the company could position the new model among the flagship S25 series. It could be similar to what Apple is doing with the Plus model, offering a bigger display and battery compared to the standard iPhone model. Speaking of battery, rumours suggest that the S25 Slim could feature a capacity between 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh. It’ll be interesting to see how well that holds up for a flagship device — assuming this model is indeed being positioned as one. Realistically, the positioning depends on the specs that the Slim version will have and it is too early to talk about this because there are very less details about the smartphone.
