MG ADAPT platform

MG unveils ADAPT, India's first multi-NEV platform; EV and PHEV due by FY27

JSW MG Motor India's new ADAPT architecture can support EVs, HEVs, PHEVs and REEVs on a single platform, with the first electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid set to debut by the end of FY2026-27.

JSW MG Motor India has unveiled MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), claiming it to be India's first multi-New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform. Designed as a modular architecture, the new platform can underpin electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and range extender electric vehicles (REEVs), allowing the company to build multiple powertrain options on a common platform.

The automaker has also confirmed that the first two products based on the ADAPT platform—an EV and a PHEV—will be launched by the end of FY2026-27, strengthening its future portfolio of electrified vehicles in India.

A single platform for multiple powertrains

MG says the ADAPT architecture has been engineered to offer greater flexibility while reducing development time for future models. The modular platform has been designed to improve driving range, enable faster charging, enhance efficiency, deliver better performance, improve safety and offer a more refined driving experience.

The company added that the platform is future-ready and can be adapted to accommodate evolving mobility technologies, giving customers a wider choice of electrified powertrains based on their usage requirements.

Hybrid-focused technology ecosystem

At the core of the ADAPT platform is an integrated hybrid technology ecosystem that combines several new components designed to improve efficiency and drivability.

These include:

  • A dedicated hybrid petrol engine
  • A dedicated battery system
  • India's first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit
  • The world's first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)

According to MG, the dedicated hybrid engine has been developed exclusively for hybrid applications to deliver higher thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption. The dedicated battery system is claimed to offer quicker electric response, improved safety and higher efficiency.

The compact 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit integrates multiple functions into a single unit, reducing complexity while improving packaging, efficiency and overall performance. Meanwhile, the new electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission is designed to deliver smoother power delivery and quicker response.

Four intelligent drive modes

The platform's Intelligent Energy Management System continuously monitors driving conditions and automatically switches between four operating modes to maximise efficiency:

  • Pure Electric Drive: The vehicle runs solely on electric power for quiet urban driving.
  • Series Hybrid Drive: The petrol engine generates electricity while the electric motor drives the wheels.
  • Parallel Hybrid Drive: The engine and electric motor work together to deliver maximum performance.
  • Engine Direct Drive: The engine powers the wheels directly for improved efficiency during highway cruising.
  • REEV support for longer range

Besides conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids, ADAPT has also been developed to support Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology.

In an REEV configuration, the electric motor is always responsible for driving the wheels, while the petrol engine functions only as a generator to recharge the battery when required. MG says this setup delivers an electric-first driving experience while eliminating range anxiety by extending the vehicle's overall driving range.

With ADAPT, JSW MG Motor India aims to expand its New Energy Vehicle lineup with multiple electrified powertrain options, giving buyers greater flexibility as the market gradually transitions towards cleaner mobility.
