Honda City facelift to launch this week: All you need to know
Honda Cars India is set to launch the facelifted Honda City this week, bringing sharper styling, updated features and subtle cabin revisions as the sedan aims to stay competitive in its segment.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayHonda Cars India is preparing to unveil the updated Honda City later this week, and ahead of its official debut, undisguised images of the facelifted sedan have surfaced online, revealing a sharper exterior design, subtle cabin revisions and the possibility of several new premium features.
Exterior design
The updated City adopts a cleaner and more mature styling language inspired by Honda’s latest global models, including the Honda Prelude and Honda Accord. While the overall silhouette remains familiar, the facelift introduces enough visual changes to keep the sedan fresh in the highly competitive mid-size sedan segment.
The biggest updates are concentrated at the front. The facelifted City gets redesigned LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a revised grille featuring a layered honeycomb-style mesh pattern and a reworked bumper with angular inserts and a cleaner lower air intake section.
One of the more noticeable changes is the repositioned Honda logo, which now sits above the grille on the bonnet, giving the sedan a more premium and contemporary appearance. The refreshed grille also stretches more seamlessly between the headlamps, visually enhancing the car’s width.
The side profile remains largely unchanged, although higher variants are expected to receive newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, Honda is likely to introduce subtle tweaks including revised tail lamp detailing and a mildly updated bumper design.
Interior design
Inside, the facelift is expected to receive evolutionary rather than dramatic updates. Spy images indicate the addition of a larger freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the current 8.0-inch unit, which may also lead to minor revisions to the dashboard layout.
Honda is also likely to add several comfort and convenience features to strengthen the City’s appeal against newer rivals. Expected additions include ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat and a 360-degree camera system. The connected car technology suite could also receive updates alongside new upholstery and trim finishes.
The current City already comes equipped with six airbags, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system and the Honda SENSING ADAS suite. The facelift is expected to continue offering advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation and auto high beam assist.
Powertrain options expected to remain unchanged
Mechanically, the updated City is unlikely to receive any changes. Honda is expected to retain the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 121bhp and 145Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.
The strong hybrid e:HEV variant is also expected to continue unchanged. The hybrid setup develops 126hp and comes paired with an e-CVT transmission, while also delivering significantly higher fuel efficiency compared to the standard petrol version.
Expected pricing and rivals
The facelifted Honda City is expected to command a slight premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Once launched, the updated sedan will continue to rival the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus in the Indian market.
