- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has appeared in Bluetooth SIG certification records
- The listing confirms the "Ultra" branding for Samsung's Fold series for the first time
- Reports suggest Samsung may launch both a Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra this year
Foldable smartphones never fail to spark curiosity. The moment most people get their first look at one, the same question crosses their mind, how does a display fold completely and still work perfectly? Now, the device is becoming too common; every other brand brings its own exclusive foldable. Samsung was one of the first brands to venture into foldable smartphones, launching the Galaxy Fold back in 2019. The foldable series continues with the last model, Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Now, Samsung is reportedly preparing a new addition to its foldable smartphone lineup. But it may carry an “Ultra” branding for the first time. According to a report by SumahoDigest, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has been listed in multiple Bluetooth SIG entries, with certification records revealing several regional variants of the device. The publication notes that the handset has been registered under five different model numbers, including versions for major Japanese carriers and a SIM-free model, suggesting a broad launch in the Japanese market.
Earlier, we discussed the purported iPhone Fold, aka iPhone Ultra. In the case of Apple's smartphones, “Ultra” branding is new, so it makes sense that the company could brand its foldable lineup as “Ultra.” But in Samsung's case, the company already has Ultra smartphones in its S-series. Maybe Samsung’s foldable Ultra could bring something more exclusive to the table than the standard Fold. Or is there something behind the curtain as both of the tech behemoths, Apple and Samsung, are allegedly naming their foldables “Ultra,” remains unclear.
What we could expect from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
While the report does not reveal any hardware specifications, it explicitly confirms the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra name. Recent leaks have suggested that Samsung could launch two Galaxy Z Fold 8 models this year. First, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to feature a wider form factor, and second, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which could retain a design closer to the current Galaxy Z Fold series.
Previous reports indicate that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and to keep the lights on, pack a 5,000mAh battery. The foldable is also tipped to measure around 4.1mm when unfolded, potentially making it thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 variant remains largely under wraps, and its availability in markets such as Japan is yet to be confirmed. At present, only the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has appeared in official certification records.
Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation foldable smartphones in the coming months, with some reports suggesting an official announcement could arrive as early as July, followed by a market release in August.
As these informations are based on speculations, readers are advised to take it with a pinch of salt.
