Apple launches iPhone Duo, its first foldable starting at Rs 2,99,900

Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone with a book-style design. The launch takes Apple into the foldable segment with a premium device priced from Rs 2,99,900.

Apple has launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone throwing its hat into the ring where Samsung has had a free run for many years. It is as the leaks foretold. Taking a page out of Samsung’s recent foldable outing ala Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, the iPhone Duo—too—opts for a short and wide, not long and narrow, book-style design giving you access to two screens in one package. The iPhone Duo, though it has been fully announced today, will go on sale in late October at a price of Rs 2,99,900.

iPhone Duo design, specs and features

The Duo, which is Apple’s maiden foldable venture, fundamentally reimagines the regular iPhone—think iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max—form factor by combining a massive 7.6-inch inner foldable screen and a 5.4-inch outer display within an aerospace-grade titanium frame. To be more specific, the iPhone Duo’s inner display is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s, while the outer 5.4-inch screen shares a consistent aspect ratio. Both screens support Apple Pencil (USB-C).

The chassis uses a mix of Grade 5 Titanium and Ceramic Shield 2 and comes in a choice of Star White and Night Sky. Apple says the hinge which is the beating heart of any foldable features a custom variable torque profile, carbon fiber support plates, and integrated magnets for a satisfying, completely flat closure. The crease is minimised with the help of a custom, maskless laser lithography polymer. Touch ID is smartly integrated into the side button while the inner FaceTime camera sits completely hidden beneath the screen until activated.

The iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip, also seen inside the iPhone 18 Pro models. It also runs on what Apple is calling a dynamically adaptive iOS 27 software experience which is billed for seamlessly merging tablet-level productivity with pocketable convenience. Case in point: the UI shifts essential controls to the side for thumb-friendly ergonomics, instantly adapting whether the device is folded, partially opened, or fully flat. The Duo software also lets you view two home screens simultaneously, run parallel apps side-by-side, or pin videos to the top half while working below. Apple is offering API support for app developers to make the best use of the new form factor.

For photography, the iPhone Duo has a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide. Features like "Duo Preview" let subjects check their framing on the outer display, and "SmartTake" uses AI to auto-snap the shutter when everyone is smiling.

iPhone Duo pricing and availability

In India, the iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for 256GB storage and it will go on sale starting October 23. Pre-orders will begin from October 16. It is going to be available in only two colours -- Night Sky and Star White, which is essentially a nicer way of saying blue grey and white. The top variant with 2TB storage will cost Rs 4,49,900.
