After iPhone Duo, Apple may launch an even bigger iPhone Duo Max, report says

Apple could expand its iPhone Duo foldable lineup with a larger Duo Max, says a report. The foldable could also ship with a cheaper version – Duo SE and a clamshell-style Duo Mini. Here's what you need to know.

Waves made by Apple’s 3-lakh iPhone Duo have yet to settle, but rumour mills have already started predicting the future of the foldable. A fresh report suggests Apple could expand the iPhone Duo lineup with new models in the coming years. And one of the possibilities is an iPhone Duo Max, which could come with a larger display. Apple could also introduce a cheaper Duo SE or even a smaller Duo mini with a clamshell-style design.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the name “Duo” gives Apple more room to expand the lineup compared to the “Ultra” name that was reportedly considered for the foldable. Before the launch, some Apple employees had apparently started calling the device the iPhone Ultra, possibly influenced by the rumours and leaks surrounding the phone.

However, Apple eventually went with iPhone Duo. Gurman says the three-letter suffix fits with names such as Air and Pro and gives Apple more flexibility for future models.

For example, an iPhone Duo Max sounds like a natural fit for a larger-screen version. Apple could also launch a Duo SE with fewer features or a Duo Mini that uses a clamshell design.

iPhone Duo specs and features

The iPhone Duo comes with a 7.6-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display when unfolded. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. It can reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, while the display has a Nano Texture finish and an anti-reflective coating. Apple has also added a 5.4-inch cover display for when the phone is folded.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chipset, based on a 2nm process. The chipset is paired with 12GB RAM, with storage options going all the way up to 2TB. The phone runs on iOS 27 and uses a six-core CPU along with a seven-core Apple GPU.

For photography, the foldable gets a dual-camera setup at the back. There is a 48-megapixel primary camera with a wide-angle lens, PDAF and sensor-shift optical image stabilisation. It is paired with another 48-megapixel ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view.

The cameras can record videos in up to 4K at 120fps and support features such as Dolby Vision HDR, ProRes and spatial video. The cover display also gets a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with autofocus.

Apple has equipped the iPhone Duo with a Li-Ion battery. The phone supports wired charging and can reach 50 per cent charge in around 20 minutes. It also supports 25W wireless charging through MagSafe and Qi2, with 50 per cent charge possible in around 30 minutes.

And then comes the part that makes the iPhone Duo a very expensive purchase. The foldable starts at Rs 2,99,900 for the 256GB variant in India. The 512GB model costs Rs 3,24,900, while the 1TB version is priced at Rs 3,74,900. The top-end 2TB variant costs a massive Rs 4,49,900.
