Updated 2026 Toyota Hilux to be launched today: Price, features, engine and more

Toyota is set to launch the updated 2026 Hilux in India today with a refreshed design, upgraded cabin, new technology and the possibility of a 48V mild-hybrid diesel powertrain, while retaining its rugged off-road credentials.

Toyota is set to introduce the updated Hilux in India today, marking the arrival of the latest iteration of its lifestyle pickup. The Hilux has steadily carved out a niche in the Indian market since its launch in 2022, appealing to buyers looking for a rugged off-roader with everyday usability. With the new model, Toyota is expected to focus on a sharper design, a more premium cabin and additional technology while retaining the pickup's proven mechanical package.

Here's a look at what to expect from the 2026 Toyota Hilux ahead of its launch.

Expected price

The updated Hilux is likely to command a premium over the outgoing model. Prices are expected to start at around Rs 30 lakh and go up to approximately Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), compared to the current model's Rs 28.52 lakh to Rs 35.85 lakh (ex-showroom).

Familiar diesel engine with mild-hybrid assistance

Under the bonnet, Toyota is expected to continue with its tried-and-tested 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The unit is likely to retain its existing outputs of 204hp and 420Nm with the 6-speed manual transmission, while the 6-speed automatic version is expected to produce 204hp and 500Nm.

The biggest mechanical update could come in the form of Toyota's 48V mild-hybrid system, marketed as 'neoDrive' on the Fortuner. The setup is expected to improve refinement, fuel efficiency and low-speed drivability without significantly altering the Hilux's performance. Four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case is also expected to remain standard.

Although Toyota has already revealed an electric Hilux globally, featuring a 59.2kWh battery pack and a claimed WLTP range of 240km, that version is unlikely to be introduced in India anytime soon.

Different styling

The upcoming Hilux is expected to receive its most comprehensive visual update yet. International versions showcase a significantly differnt front fascia with slimmer LED headlamps, redesigned LED daytime running lamps and a larger rectangular grille finished in gloss black with prominent Toyota lettering.

The bumper has also been completely redesigned, incorporating larger air intakes, a rugged silver skid plate and vertically positioned LED fog lamps, giving the pickup a more muscular appearance.

Along the sides, the Hilux retains its signature silhouette but gains more pronounced wheel arches and cleaner surfacing. At the rear, C-shaped LED tail-lamps, bold Toyota lettering across the tailgate and an integrated rear bumper step add to the refreshed look while improving practicality.

Cabin expected to get a major overhaul

Inside, the India-spec Hilux is expected to closely mirror the global model, bringing a noticeable leap in technology and perceived quality.

The dashboard is likely to feature a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Toyota is also expected to retain physical buttons for frequently used functions, preserving the pickup's rugged and user-friendly character. Soft-touch materials, leatherette trim and an all-black interior theme are expected to lend the cabin a more premium feel.

Feature list to grow significantly

Toyota is likely to expand the Hilux's equipment list with several features that were absent on the outgoing model.

Expected additions include ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, heated outside mirrors, front and rear parking sensors and a 220V power outlet. A nine-speaker JBL sound system is also expected to be part of the package.

The updated Hilux could also receive an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, bringing features such as autonomous emergency braking and other driver-assist technologies to Toyota's pickup.

Rivals

Once launched, the updated Toyota Hilux will continue to compete primarily with the Isuzu V-Cross, which remains its only direct rival in the Indian lifestyle pickup segment. The V-Cross is currently priced between Rs 28.52 lakh and Rs 35.85 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the more affordable alternative, while the Hilux is expected to position itself as the more premium offering.
