- The revision has also been made to Airtel's Rs 1,999 annual pack
Airtel has revised two of its popular prepaid recharge plans at the start of 2025, a move which likely has been taken to align with a recent directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The updates reportedly focus on providing Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) with voice and SMS benefits, but data offerings have been scaled back. Here is everything you need to know about it.
Airtel has a Rs 509 prepaid recharge plan, which is the company's old pack but the benefits have been refreshed. The plan is still valid for 84 days and it now targets users who mainly require voice calls with no cap and a lot of SMS benefits, with no mobile data benefits. It comes with unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS.
Earlier, this plan also included 6GB of data, but the updated pack has removed it. Airtel users will still get additional perks like free access to the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, and Hello Tunes. Those who also need some data can consider buying the Rs 569 Airtel prepaid plan as this one comes with 6GB of mobile data along with the same voice and SMS benefits.
Now, the second Airtel prepaid recharge plan that has been revised is its Rs 1,999 annual pack. While it continues to provide unlimited voice calls and 3,000 free SMS, the 24GB of mobile data previously included has been removed. Users of this plan can still enjoy extra services such as the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, and Hello Tunes.
The changes are in response to TRAI’s mandate that requires operators to offer STVs meant for voice and SMS services. This means that the new Airtel plans, while offering strong voice and SMS benefits, now come with fewer data options, requiring customers to purchase separate data packs if needed. One can also simply consider buying other packs that offer unlimited benefits. Additionally, charges for SMS beyond the free limit are set at Rs 1 for local and Rs 1.5 for STD.
