Northern Railway has introduced a self-operated, OTP-based digital locker system at four major railway stations in Delhi to give passengers a safe and hassle-free way to store luggage temporarily. The stations are New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi Junction and Anand Vihar Terminal.

The facility has started at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, while it will be made operational shortly at Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Junction. Northern Railway said the lockers are aimed at helping passengers store their belongings securely during waiting periods or while stepping out of the station.

“The lockers use a digital, OTP-based access system, allowing passengers to deposit and retrieve their belongings securely without having to carry heavy luggage during their waiting period or visits outside the station,” Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, chief public relations officer, Northern Railway, said.

Officials said passengers have to enter their mobile number on a monitor panel near the digital locker and verify it using an OTP.

“Once OTP verification is completed, the passenger can select the locker size and duration according to their requirements. After making the selection, the passenger can make the payment, place the luggage inside the locker and close it,” a railway official from the Delhi Division said.

He added, “To collect the luggage, the passenger will have to enter the registered mobile number and verify it using the OTP. After verification, he or she can select the ‘Release’ option to open the locker and collect the luggage.”

According to Upadhyay, the facility is particularly useful for tourists, passengers with long waiting periods between trains and those travelling with heavy luggage. Payments can be made through digital modes such as Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe and other available options.

“The Digital Lockers are being provided at suitable locations, with due consideration to passenger convenience, accessibility, security and optimum utilisation of available space. The facility has been made operational at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, while the facilities at Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Junction will be made operational shortly,” Upadhyay said.

At New Delhi Railway Station, the Digital Luggage Locker facility is available in the Main Hall near Platform No. 16, below the digital display board. At Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, it is located near the main entrance gate, next to the staircase, station staff said.

The facility will be available to passengers at both stations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as Northern Railway expands the locker system across the four Delhi stations.
