Apple Intelligence to debut in India in April, Apple confirms

Apple has confirmed that Apple Intelligence will soon expand into more languages and regions, including India. The company has announced that this step will come into action in April, possibly with iOS 18.4.

Apple has finally announced that Apple Intelligence is coming to India. According to the official release, the company is planning to expand the availability of Apple Intelligence to more regions and languages. Apple states, "Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system that delivers helpful and relevant intelligence, will soon be available in more languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified) — as well as localised English for Singapore and India."

Moreover, the company has also confirmed that this update will be accompanied by iOS 18.4. "These new languages will be accessible in nearly all regions around the world with the release of iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 in April, and developers can start to test these releases today."

This comes after a few weeks of Apple CEO Tim Cook confirming that the company’s AI-powered suite, Apple Intelligence, will launch in India this April. The move marks a significant step in expanding Apple’s AI capabilities in the country, which were previously limited to select features like the Clean Up tool.

During the company’s latest earnings call, Cook announced that the rollout will include support for localised English for India and Singapore, making AI-driven tools more accessible to users in these regions. With this update, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users in India will soon gain access to advanced AI features such as Writing Tools, Smart Reply, and ChatGPT integration, enhancing their overall experience.

How to use Apple Intelligence in India?

While there is still some time for Indian users to use Apple Intelligence in default settings, there is another way to play with the new features.

To access AI features on eligible iPhones, you must first change your default regional setting to a language that supports Apple Intelligence. To do this, navigate to Settings > General > Language & Region, then select English (US) or any other supported language as your device’s primary language.

Currently, Indian English is not yet supported for Apple Intelligence. This setting ensures your device recognises the required language for AI functionality.

Next, go to Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri > Language, and once again, choose English (US) or another supported language for Siri and Apple Intelligence.

After completing these steps, Apple will invite you to join a waitlist for access to Apple Intelligence. Once you’ve joined, you’ll receive a notification within a few hours or days when the local language model has been downloaded to your device. At that point, you can start exploring Apple's latest suite of AI-powered features.
