Honda NX500 launched with E-Clutch technology at Rs 7.44 lakh
Honda has launched the NX500 with its new E-Clutch technology in India, aiming to make everyday riding and long-distance touring more comfortable by reducing manual clutch operation during traffic-heavy commutes.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayHonda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched the Honda NX500 with Honda’s proprietary E-Clutch technology at a starting price of Rs 7.44 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With this update, the middleweight adventure tourer becomes more accessible for everyday riding by reducing the need for manual clutch operation, especially in traffic and long-distance touring conditions.
Honda is offering the NX500 E-Clutch in two colour options — Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic and Pearl Horizon White.
What is Honda E-Clutch?
Honda’s E-Clutch system uses electronic actuators to automatically manage clutch engagement during starts, stops, and gearshifts. Riders still need to operate the gear lever manually, but clutch inputs are no longer necessary in most riding situations. Importantly, the motorcycle retains a conventional clutch lever, allowing riders to override the system whenever they choose.
The technology is designed to reduce rider fatigue in urban traffic while preserving the engagement and control associated with a traditional manual gearbox. Honda says the system has been tuned keeping Indian riding conditions in mind, including stop-go traffic and long highway rides.
Compared to the standard motorcycle, the E-Clutch system adds around 3kg, taking the kerb weight of the NX500 to 199kg.
No changes to engine or hardware
Mechanically, the NX500 remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 47bhp at 8,500rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The bike is built around a steel diamond frame and uses Showa SFF-BP upside-down front forks along with a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by twin 296mm front discs with radially mounted Nissin calipers and a 240mm rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS.
The NX500 rides on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel setup, giving it a balance between road touring comfort and light off-road capability.
Features and electronics
Feature highlights include a 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with Honda RoadSync connectivity, enabling smartphone-based navigation, calls, and music controls. The motorcycle also gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), switchable traction control, and full LED lighting as standard.
Unlike some rivals, the NX500 keeps things relatively simple with no riding modes or ride-by-wire throttle setup.
Price and rivals
The addition of E-Clutch technology has resulted in a significant price increase over the outgoing standard version, with the NX500 now retailing at Rs 7.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite the premium pricing, Honda is banking on the NX500’s reputation for reliability, refinement, and low running costs to attract buyers looking for a dependable touring machine.
The NX500 E-Clutch rivals motorcycles such as the BMW F 450 GS in the Indian market.
