Looking to buy the Volkswagen Taigun? This is the how the facelift looks
Ahead of its April 9 launch, Volkswagen has revealed the refreshed Volkswagen Taigun, showcasing a sharper design, premium touches and expected feature upgrades to boost its appeal in India's competitive mid-size SUV segment.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayVolkswagen has taken the wraps off the updated 2026 Taigun ahead of its official India launch on April 9, offering a first look at the SUV’s sharper design and hinting at feature upgrades. Production of the refreshed model is already underway at the brand’s Chakan facility in Pune, where it is manufactured alongside the Skoda Kushaq.
This marks the first significant mid-cycle update for the Taigun since its debut in 2021, with the focus clearly shifting towards a more premium appearance and enhanced in-cabin tech.
Sharper styling
The facelift introduces a redesigned front fascia that lends the Taigun a more contemporary look. A reworked bumper with a pronounced lower lip, wider horizontal detailing, and added chrome elements elevates the SUV’s road presence. The headlamps have been reprofiled and are now linked by a slim LED light bar, while the grille gets a cleaner layout with an illuminated Volkswagen badge.
The GT variant distinguishes itself with a sportier treatment, swapping chrome accents for gloss black across the bumper, diffuser, alloy wheels, ORVMs and roof rails.
Although the rear design is yet to be fully revealed, subtle updates such as revised LED tail-lamps and a lit VW emblem are expected to complete the visual refresh.
Cabin likely to get tech and comfort boost
Interior details remain under wraps for now, but the updated Taigun is expected to bring a noticeable upgrade in features and cabin experience. Anticipated additions include a larger digital driver’s display, an updated infotainment system with integrated AI functions, and improvements to overall usability.
Comfort could also see a step up, with features like a panoramic sunroof and enhanced rear-seat amenities expected to be part of the package. The air-conditioning system is also likely to be refined to better suit Indian conditions.
Familiar engines, possible gearbox update
Mechanically, the Taigun facelift is expected to continue with its existing turbo-petrol engine lineup. This includes a 1.0-litre TSI unit producing 115bhp and 178Nm, and a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine delivering 150bhp and 250Nm.
While the 1.5-litre engine is likely to retain its 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the 1.0-litre variant could see the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic option, in addition to the standard 6-speed manual.
Pricing and rivals
Pricing for the updated Taigun will be announced at launch, though it is expected to carry a slight premium over the current model. Once launched, it will continue to compete in the crowded midsize SUV segment against rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Renault Duster.
