Volkswagen Taigun facelift to debut tomorrow: What to expect from the updated SUV
Volkswagen is set to launch the facelifted Volkswagen Taigun in India tomorrow, bringing updated styling, added features and subtle mechanical tweaks to strengthen its position in the mid-size SUV segment.
by Auto Today · India TodayVolkswagen is all set to introduce the updated Volkswagen Taigun in India tomorrow, April 9, marking the first major mid-cycle update for the SUV since its debut in 2021. The refreshed model, which was revealed ahead of launch, features a refreshed design language and few upgrades. Production is already underway at the brand’s Chakan facility in Pune, alongside its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq.
Exterior design
The facelift brings a noticeably reworked front fascia, giving the Taigun a more contemporary and upmarket appeal. A redesigned bumper with a more pronounced lower lip, wider horizontal elements and added chrome detailing enhances its visual width and stance. The headlamps have been reprofiled and are now connected by a slim LED light bar, while the grille adopts a cleaner layout and features an illuminated Volkswagen badge.
For those seeking a sportier look, the GT variant swaps chrome for gloss black accents across elements like the bumper, diffuser, alloy wheels, ORVMs and roof rails, lending it a more aggressive character. While the rear hasn’t been fully revealed, updates such as tweaked LED tail-lamps and a lit VW emblem are expected to round off the exterior refresh.
Interior design
Inside, Volkswagen Taigun is expected to take a step forward in terms of technology and overall cabin experience. While official details are still under wraps, the SUV is likely to feature a larger digital driver’s display and an updated infotainment system with integrated AI-based functions.
Comfort enhancements could include the addition of a panoramic sunroof and improved rear-seat amenities, addressing one of the key areas of feedback from the current model. Volkswagen is also expected to refine the air-conditioning system to better suit Indian conditions.
Powertrain options
Mechanically, the updated Taigun is expected to retain its existing turbo-petrol engine options. These include a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 115bhp and 178Nm, and a 1.5-litre TSI unit delivering 150bhp and 250Nm.
Transmission options are likely to see a minor update. While the 1.5-litre engine should continue with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the 1.0-litre variant could gain a new 8-speed automatic option alongside the standard 6-speed manual.
Pricing and rivals
Prices for the facelifted Volkswagen Taigun will be announced at launch and are expected to see a slight increase over the outgoing model.
Once launched, it will continue to compete in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Tata Sierra.
