Elon Musk’s Starlink has become the third company in India to get a key license for satellite communication by Department of Telecommunications, mentioned Reuters in its report. The satellite communication license was earlier limited to Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio. For Starlink, this achievement marks a significant step towards launching its satellite internet services in the country.

The Minister of Communications of India, Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed the development, stating that Starlink will now officially join Oneweb and Jio as licensed satellite internet providers in India. He also clarified that the spectrum allocation will follow soon to enable satellite services to begin quickly.

He added that Starlink’s satellite connectivity would significantly enhance India’s telecommunication landscape while highlighting the evolution from fixed-line services to mobile broadband and optical fiber connectivity.

He also emphasized the growing importance of satellite communication especially in remote areas. Starlink’s entry will bring internet access to places that are currently not connected.
