Qualcomm might introduce a new chipset for smartwatches very soon, mentioned a report by Android Authority. According to the report, the chip manufacturer is working on a new chipset that is meant to power upcoming smartwatch models.
The chipset is code named ‘Aspen’ and has the model number ‘SW6100.’ It can be assumed that the chipset will be marketed as the Snapdragon Wear W6. For those who are unknown, the W5 has the model number SW5100.
However, the new chip will not be based on any existing Qualcomm product. This is quite a deviation if older chipsets are considered. The Snapdragon Wear W6 will be offered for wearable platforms and its CPU will have five cores and this includes one Cortex-A78 core and four Cortex-A55 cores. It will support LPDDR5X RAM and will be built by TSMC.
As the Snapdragon Wear W5 series was launched way back in 2022, we can expect Qualcomm to introduce its replacement chipset this year. It seems that W6 will be more powerful as it offers four Cortex-A55 cores and a Cortex-A78 big core in comparison to four Cortex-A53 cores in W5.
The timeline for the launch of this new Qualcomm chip is unknown. We can expect that the company will announce the launch dates during its annual Snapdragon summit in September.
