Maruti Suzuki has just launched the facelifted version of its premium hatchback in the country. We’re talking about the Baleno facelift which got a festive launch price of Rs 6.1 lakh, but the company has had a change of hearts (strategy) and the prices have been adjusted, starting from Rs 5.99 lakh (Ex-sh).

That Rs 5.99 lakh (Ex-sh) is for the base Sigma variant and units have been dispatched to showrooms. In a recent video by GA.Automotive, we can see a detailed walkaround of Baleno’s base Sigma variant showing what the base variant gets and what it doesn’t.

Being the base variant, Baleno Sigma facelift gets most of the basics right and seems to have not compromised on comfort and practicality. For starters, there is nothing really standing out and screaming that Sigma is the base variant. It still gets the new grille, finished in black instead of chrome and the new bumper where LED fog lights can be fitted as accessory.

These headlights gets a chrome signature in them and the illumination comes from projector setup and halogen bulbs behind them. Turn indicators are also halogen. At the sides, Baleno Sigma gets wheel covers for its 15-inch steel wheels. ORVMs are unpainted and the side turn indicators are halogen units, positioned on side quarter panels.

At the rear, LED-based tail lights are present, even though turn indicators and reverse lights are halogen. Despite being the base variant, Baleno Sigma gets rear defogger and a shark fin antenna. There’s central locking along with remote lock / unlock with the key. Both keys get remote function. All four power windows are offered and driver window gets auto up / down function too.

Functional Interiors

On the inside, first thing one would notice is the same Black and Blue interior combination Maruti Suzuki offers with top variants as well. Dashboard is the same, but there is no infotainment system of any sorts. The AC is a manual unit, even though it looks like it is the same auto climate control panel as top variants.

Steering wheel is height adjustable as standard in Baleno facelift, but driver’s seat is not height adjustable. There are not controls on steering wheel and behind it is an analogue instrument cluster along with an MID in the middle. Seat upholstery is fabric and there’s no front centre armrest, nor rear AC vents with Baleno base Sigma variant.

Commendably, Maruti Suzuki has offered 6 airbags along with adjustable headrests for all occupants with base Baleno Sigma. Boot space is 318L and rear bench is 60:40 split for versatility. Rear parcel tray is not offered, but spare wheel is. The engine under its bonnet is the 1.2L 3-cylinder Z Series unit with a 5-speed manual gearbox and around 6% higher fuel efficiency figures than previous 1.2L K Series 4-cylinder engine.
