Kawasaki KLX 230 S is equipped with a 233 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, generating 19.73 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 20.3 Nm of peak torque

After months of testing it on public roads, Kawasaki India has revealed the KLX 230 S for the domestic market. The dual sport motorcycle will likely hit local assembly and thus it will be priced competitively. Ahead of the price announcement in December 2024, Kawasaki has commenced bookings for the brand new model for an initial token of Rs. 5,000.

Kawasaki’s W 175 is currently the brand’s most affordable motorcycle in India, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs. 1.22 lakh. Positioned higher, the KLX 230 S is expected to carry a price tag slightly above Rs. 2 lakh (ex-showroom). While it doesn’t have a direct competitor in the Indian market, models like the Hero Xpulse 200 and KTM 250 Adventure share a similar adventurous spirit, making them potential alternatives.

The dual-sport motorcycle segment is still gaining traction in India, and Kawasaki’s KLX 230 S is an intriguing addition. Powered by a 233 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, it delivers 19.73 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 20.3 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. This engine setup is also featured in the recently debuted W 230.

The Kawasaki KLX 230 S features telescopic front forks and a linked-type monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes on both the front and rear. It rides on wire-spoked wheels – 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear – wrapped in knobby tyres designed for tough terrain. In the international markets, the KLX 230 S is available in striking green and grey colour options.

The Kawasaki KLX 230 S has a minimalist design, featuring a basic fairing, a tall front fender, and a compact tail section. Its long, flat seat adds to the rugged utility of the bike, while the updated version comes with a new subframe and improved suspension, offering longer travel for better off-road capability. With its tall stance, the bike has a seat height of 830 mm and an impressive ground clearance of 210 mm, making it well-suited for tackling rough terrains.
