Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is a thinner, faster, and more expensive foldable (without S-Pen support)

The promise of foldable phones has long been that you could have a phone-sized device that also has a tablet-sized screen available when unfolded. But in order to accomplish that, phone makers have typically had to make compromises – early models were plagued by screens that were prone to collecting dust under the display. And until recently most foldables were thicker than a typical smartphone when folded.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold7 is a foldable that’s so thin that it should feel like a normal phone when folded, and an ultraslim tablet when unfolded. It also brings an upgraded processor and camera system to the Galaxy Z Fold line. But there are a few downsides: first this is an expensive phone that sells for $2000 and up. And second, Samsung is dropping S-Pen support.

The S-Pen has been a defining feature of premium Samsung phones, offering a pressure-sensitive stylus for writing, drawing, and interacting with your mobile device. But the technology that enables stylus support makes the screen a little thicker, and Samsung’s goal for the Galaxy Z Fold7 was to slim things down considerable.

What the company ended up with is a phone that measures:

  • 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9mm when folded
  • 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.2mm when unfolded

The phone measures 215 grams and features a 4,400 mAh battery, which is the same size as the battery in the Galaxy Z Fold6.

Both the inner and outer screens are a little larger in this year’s model. Instead of a 6.3 inch cover display and 7.6 inch inner screen, the Galaxy Z Fol7 has a 6.5 inch, 2520 x 1080 pixel AMOLED cover display with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the interior screen is a foldable 8 inch, 2184 x 1968 pixel AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate.

And the camera system for this year’s flagship foldable includes:

  • 200MP wide-angle camera
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera
  • 10MP telephoto (3X)
  • 10MP front primary camera
  • 10MP cover selfie camera

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip used in the Samsung Galaxy S25, and the phone comes in three memory/storage configurations: 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB or 16GB/1TB.

Other features include support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and 5G  cellular networks, a fingerprint sensor on the side, an aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic on the cover and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.

The phone ships with Android 16 and features Samsung’s One UI 8 software experience.

Samsung is taking pre-orders now, and the Galaxy Z Fol7 will be available starting July 25.
