New Asus Chromebook CX14 and CX15 laptops have 1080p displays and Intel Twin Lake processors
by Brad Linder · LiliputingAsus is refreshing its Chromebook CX14 and CX15 line of laptops with several new models sporting 1080p displays and support for up to an Intel Core i3-N355 Twin Lake processor.
The new Asus Chromebook CX14 models have 14 inch displays and starting weighs of 1.39 kg (3.1 pounds), while the Chromebook CX15 is a 1.59kg (3.5 pound) laptop with a larger 15 inch display. Otherwise the specs are pretty similar.
All of the new Chromebooks have 1080p displays, but entry-level configurations have TN displays (with limited viewing angles) and older, slower Intel Celeron N4500 dual-core processors based on Jasper Lake architecture, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
Higher-priced configurations have VIPS displays with optional touchscreens and Intel Twin Lake processor options ranging from the quad-core Intel Processor N150 and N250 to the octa-core Intel Core i3-N355.
Asus also offers Chromebook Plus models which ship standard with at least 8GB of LPDDR5 onboard memory and 128GB of eMMC storage, but which support up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Higher-priced models with Twin Lake chips have the following set of ports, whether they’re Chromebook Plus models or standard Chromebooks:
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C (5 Gbps with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery)
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
- 1 x HDMI 1.4b
- 1 x 3.5mm audio
These models also support optional backlit keyboards, come with a choice of HD or FHD webcams (FHD is standard on the Plus models), and come with a choice of 42 Wh, 50 Wh, or 63Wh batteries.
Lower-priced models with Intel Celeron N4500 chips, on the other hand, come with non-backlit keyboards, a choice of 42 Wh or 50 Wh batteries, and a choice of 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x memory. These models also have a single USB-C port instead of two.
All models support WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 (or higher in some cases).
