Asus Vivobook 14 (X1407QA) is a $700 laptop with Snapdragon X

The Asus Vivobook 14 (X1407QA) is a 3.1 pound laptop with a 14 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS LCD display, 16GB of LPDDR5x onboard memory, and an M.2 2280 slot populated with a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

It’s also one of the first laptops powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X processor for lower-cost Windows on ARM PCs. Asus says the laptop goes up for pre-order later this month for $700, making it one of the most affordable laptops with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X series processor to date.

As part of the Vivobook family, this laptop doesn’t have all of the premium features you’d find in a higher-priced computer like the new Zenbook A14. The Vivobook 14 has a plastic case, for example, and lacks an OLED display.

But by budget laptop standards, the Vivobook 14 doesn’t look half bad. It’s a relatively thin and light laptop that measures 12.4″ x 8.8″ x 0.7″ with a 50 Wh battery that Asus says provides up to 19.5 hours of battery life during video playback.

The Vivobook 14 features a 1080p IR webcam with support for face recognition. It supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity. And it has a set of ports that includes:

• 2 x USB4 (40 Gbps, with support for charging and video)
• 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
• 1 x HDMI 2.1
• 1 x 3.5mm audio

The laptop comes with a 65W USB-C power supply.

While the Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) processor is Qualcomm’s cheapest current-gen chip for PCs, it has 8 Oryon CPU cores with support for speeds up to 3 GHz, a 1.7 TFLOPS GPU, and the same 45 TOPS NPU as all other Snapdragon X, X Plus, and X Elite chips. Asus says it’s leveraging the AI capabilities of the processor with “AI Camera” features including support for a user presence detection feature that can lock the PC when you walk away, among other things.

Asus also has a 16 inch model called the Vivobook 16 (X1607QA-DS54) with a larger display and a bigger battery. But the rest of the specs are pretty much identical: the 16 inch model weighs 3.88 pounds and measures 0.78 inches at its thickest point, but has the same ports, battery, and display resolution as its smaller sibling. It goes up for pre-order later this month for $750.
