Lenovo’s new Legion Tab is an 8.8 inch Android gaming tablet for $500 and up

Lenovo has been selling Android tablets in China since 2022, and last year the company took its gaming tablets worldwide with the launch of the first Lenovo Legion Tab.

Now Lenovo has introduced a new model: the Lenovo Legion Tab (3rd-gen) features an 8.8 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel, 165 Hz IPS LCD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It should be available this month for $500 and up.

If this is giving you déjà vu, that may be because Lenovo already introduced a Chinese version of this tablet in September. But with a global launch, the tablet should soon be more widely available in other markets. Lenovo is also confirming specs and promising at least three major OS updates and four years of security updates: the 3rd-gen Legion Tab will ship with Android 14, but Lenovo plans to offer Android 15, 16, and 17 updates as well as security updates through 2029.

So what makes this a gaming tablet as opposed to just an Android tablet with decent specs?

For one thing, it’s got a high-res display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 144 Hz touch sampling rate (in games, or 288 Hz in other apps). For another, it’s got a speedy processor and plenty of RAM, which means that pretty much any mobile game that runs well on a flagship Android phone should work well on this tablet with a larger display.

But it also has a few features that you won’t typically find in a phone, including vapor chamber cooling, dual USB-C ports (so you can use a game controller, headset, or other peripherals at the same time as you’re using a charger). Lenovo also includes Game Assistant and Game Mode software for optimizing settings for smooth game play.

The tablet has a metal body that measures 7.8mm (0.3 inches) thick and weighs 350 grams (12.4 ounces).
