An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 hit near the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka region on Saturday.  A tsunami warning was initially issued in the region. However, the US National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii later said that there was no threat of a tsunami after the earthquake.

The United States Geological Survey pegged the earthquake at magnitude 7.4, with a depth of 39.5 km (24.5 miles). The German Research Centre for Geosciences, however, noted that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.1, with a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damages following the earthquake.

The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that warnings were issued to coastal areas regarding a slight change in sea levels. No tsunami warning was issued in Japan, which lies southwest to the Kamchatka Peninsula, NHK reported, citing Japan Meteorological Agency.

The earthquake comes after Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula was hit by five powerful quakes, the largest with a magnitude of 7.4, on July 20 this year.
