Apple Unveils HomeView: $299 Smart Display with Siri AI and Face Recognition
by Kreso · NokiamobAt its latest Welcome Home event, Apple officially kicked off a new era for its smart home ecosystem with the launch of the Apple HomeView. Designed as a centralized hub for home control, communication, and entertainment, the device starts at $299, with initial shipments beginning on November 13 in select markets.
Innovative Design and Flexibility
The Apple HomeView features an elegant form factor that pairs a 7-inch display with a domed speaker base, connected by a durable stainless steel hinge that allows users to tilt the screen to find the ideal viewing angle. The device comes in four signature Apple finishes: Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink, and Space Gray.
For a more seamless setup, Apple is also offering a wall-mounted version in Silver and Space Gray for the same $299 base price. Wall mounting requires a separate Schneider Home mount—either the Power Mount USB-C for $59.95 or the Power Mount AC Wired for $79.95.
Artificial Intelligence Meets Uncompromising Privacy
The centerpiece of the HomeView is its integration of Siri AI, the updated version of Apple’s assistant powered by the A18 chip. Currently in beta and limited to English, Siri AI can proactively surface information from apps like Messages and Calendar when paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad.
The display also introduces facial recognition capable of identifying up to six different household members. Each recognized user receives a personalized Home Screen tailored with their own widgets and apps. To protect user privacy, sensitive personal data like Messages and Calendar entries only appear when the device recognizes your face and your unlocked, paired iPhone is nearby. Apple highlights that camera and microphone processing happens locally within the Secure Enclave on the A18 chip, keeping data completely inaccessible to third-party apps and Apple itself.
Distance-Aware Display and Spatial Audio
The 7-inch panel boasts a versatile brightness range, scaling from a bright 500 nits all the way down to 0.3 nits for night use. Its adaptive interface reacts dynamically to your proximity, showing large-format glanceable details when you are across the room and revealing finer controls as you step closer.
On the audio front, the HomeView delivers Spatial Audio thanks to two full-range drivers housed in the display and a down-firing woofer paired with two passive radiators in the base. It integrates seamlessly with HomePod models for multi-room audio and supports instant music handoff simply by bringing an iPhone near the display.
The Ultimate Smart Home Control Panel
Built to serve as the ultimate command center, the HomeView supports the Matter standard alongside the new Home Collection accessories co-developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Users can monitor up to nine security camera feeds simultaneously, adjust thermostats, lock doors, and make FaceTime calls using Center Stage.
With an iCloud+ subscription, the display utilizes advanced video analytics to identify people, pets, packages, and vehicles. It can also forward emergency safety alerts to your iPhone or Apple Watch if it detects smoke or carbon monoxide alarms in the house.
Availability and European Delays
Pre-orders for the Apple HomeView are now live in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, and New Zealand, with shipments starting November 13. Notably, the European Union is absent from the initial launch roster due to ongoing regulatory hurdles and the delayed rollout of Siri AI features in iOS across the region, though Apple states it is actively working toward a solution.
