Leaked HMD Pocket Link could share 5G across multiple devices
by Kreso · NokiamobHMD is preparing to expand its hardware portfolio beyond smartphones, with new leaks revealing an upcoming 5G portable Wi-Fi hotspot dubbed the HMD Pocket Link.
According to details shared by industry tipster @smashx_60 on X, the compact device is designed to convert a nano-SIM cellular connection into a shared Wi-Fi 5 network, allowing remote workers and travelers to easily connect laptops, tablets, and other devices on the go.
The Pocket Link features a 1.77-inch color LCD screen that displays essential network metrics, including signal strength, remaining battery life, active data consumption, and the current number of connected devices. Under the hood, it is powered by the Unisoc T157. While this octa-core 5G processor is typically utilized in entry-level feature phones, it prioritizes energy-efficient connectivity—a logical hardware choice for a battery-dependent hotspot.
The device relies on a 3,000 mAh battery that charges via USB-C. The leak also indicates the inclusion of a proprietary “Save Data+” mode, though the exact mechanics of this data-optimization feature remain unspecified.
The emergence of the Pocket Link aligns with recent rumors that HMD is actively developing a broader ecosystem of branded mobile accessories, including Qi2-compatible power banks. If brought to market, the 5G hotspot will position HMD as a new competitor against established networking brands like Netgear and TP-Link in the portable connectivity sector.
