Apple’s First Foldable Will Be the iPhone Duo: $2,000 Price Tag Revealed

Just hours before the first major Apple product launch under new CEO John Ternus, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has dropped a midnight bombshell. According to the report, Apple’s highly anticipated and long-rumored foldable smartphone will officially be named the iPhone Duo.

The base model, featuring 256GB of storage, is slated to start at a premium $2,000.

A Naming Pivot: Goodbye “Ultra,” Hello “Duo”

For months, the tech community heavily speculated that Apple’s inaugural foldable would carry the “iPhone Ultra” moniker. The pivot to “Duo” is an interesting choice, given its history in the tech space. Google previously used the name for a now-defunct video calling app, and Microsoft has already established the branding in the foldable hardware market with its Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 devices.

Shipments are expected to begin as early as October, with the device launching in two elegant colorways: classic White and Dark Blue.

With a starting price of $2,000 (US, pre-tax), the iPhone Duo positions itself right in the middle of the current premium foldable landscape, directly challenging the latest offerings from Google and Samsung.

In terms of functionality, the iPhone Duo is reportedly designed to merge the best elements of iOS and iPadOS. Leaks indicate the device will support side-by-side app integration and handle advanced, iPad-like multitasking.

Most notably, the folding display is expected to feature full support for the Apple Pencil, a highly requested feature that could instantly position the iPhone Duo as the ultimate tool for digital creatives and mobile productivity.
