The big Balatro update you were looking forward to isn’t coming this year

Balatro took the gaming world by storm in 2024, winning numerous awards and landing on a variety of different platforms. It was everywhere, which was quite impressive considering that the game was developed by one person, LocalThunk, in their spare time. And while the game is pretty much perfect as it is and well worth purchasing, it was announced at some point that a new update would arrive in 2025.

While details about the update have been scarce, we're getting news today that it won't actually arrive this year, which might disappoint some hardcore Balatro fans. The good news is that it appears that most people online through various comments sections and Reddit posts are taking the news pretty well, encouraging LocalThunk to take the time needed to make it right.

Better late than never

LocalThunk shares that the work is happening "slowly" and it's a creative process. While the 1.1 update is important, LocalThunk shares that there's hope that it won't be the final update for the game and there will be more to do. Of course, we don't really know what's coming with the update, but we do know that there will most likely be new jokers, and some tweaks here and there.

As mentioned before, the game, as it is now, is pretty complete. There are a variety of different modes to experiment with, and it's a pretty fun experience whether it's your first or 100th time playing the game. Now, we know that the update isn't going to come this year, so when can we expect it? Well, LocalThunk chimes in, sharing that the update will be "done when it’s done."

And while it'd be great to have a timeline of when to expect it, this is probably the best and most honest answer, since it means that the developer can take their time to really fine tune all the things that will be arriving with the update.
