A Fitbit Charge 7 could be on the horizon according to this FCC listing

A mystery wearable device from Google has been spotted again, this time in an FCC database.

Last month, Google Australia ads showing the latest Pixel lineup popped up on YouTube. But they weren’t alone. Among them was a pill-shaped wearable that had not been seen before and was not explained by Google.

While it does not look like the last Fitbit Charge, it does have the same vertical-style setup and would make sense as the next iteration of its design.

Now, a device that matches what we would expect from a new fitness tracker from Google has shown up in the FCC database, as spotted by 9to5Google. In many ways, it matches what we would expect from a Fitbit Charge 7.

All signs point to a Fitbit Charge

The evidence is fairly strong that the device is Google’s, though the company’s name is nowhere on the listing. It also bears many hallmarks of a Fitbit, particularly the Fitbit Charge.

As with the Fitbit Air, the listing is for a wireless device and shows that it is manufactured by Google partner Goertek. It also bears a model name, G8BL6, that’s in line with the Fitbit Air as well as other Google products. And the grantee code is SVG, the same as the Fitbit Air.

The device has a screen, as does the device in the ad. The process to access the e-label on it is the same as it is on the Pixel Watch (Settings > System > Regulatory Information), which could mean that it uses Wear OS.

The device has Bluetooth LE (but not Wi-Fi) and GNSS, like the Fitbit Charge 6.

It also is a device for the wrist, as the listing says that straps were tested.

The operational description, as well as photos and schematics, are marked confidential and do not appear in the listing.

When we can expect to see it released

The application was filed two days after the Google ad showed up. The confidential elements will remain so until March 9, 2027, which would indicate that the device will be revealed before then.

If the device truly is a Fitbit Charge, it’s more than past time for a new one. It had been on a two-year release schedule, but it’s now been three years since the Fitbit Charge 6 was introduced.

Between the images in the ad and this filing, it seems that we’re no more than four months out from a device that distills the fitness focus of the Fitbit with the conveniences that Wear OS offers in a slimmer profile than the Pixel Watch.
