Samsung is pausing the Galaxy S24's One UI 8 update

by · Android Police

Although Samsung began rolling out One UI 8 last month, the process has been far from smooth. Earlier this week, the manufacturer pulled the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S22 series before resuming it later. It appears that the Android 16-based update has run into trouble again, this time with the Galaxy S24 series.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has removed the One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra from its servers. The site notes that this currently impacts Galaxy S24 models in Samsung's home region of South Korea, with no word on whether there are plans to do the same in other markets.

If you've held on this long to download One UI 8 on your Galaxy S24 series, it probably shouldn't concern you too much to wait a few more days. The One UI 8 update began rolling out in late September, so it's unusual that the company has waited this long to remove the software from its servers.

We haven't seen major issues with One UI 8 yet

As SamMobile points out, South Korea is the only region where the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S22 models hasn't restarted. By contrast, One UI 8 has resumed rolling out for the Galaxy S22 series (except for the Galaxy S22 Ultra) in other markets.

This suggests that Samsung may have identified a region-specific issue with the One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S24 series. In any case, since a large majority of users will likely have updated their device to One UI 8 by now, all they can do is hope that there are no major issues with the software.

Fortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case at the moment. While some have reported issues following the update, we're not seeing a large volume of complaints online. Meanwhile, Samsung hasn't shared many details on the reasoning behind pulling the update for the Galaxy S22 earlier this week, followed by the Galaxy S24 series now.

Considering the quick resumption of the Galaxy S22's One UI 8 update this week, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Galaxy S24's One UI 8 update follow a similar pattern.
