Google claims Android Auto 15 fixes the big Pixel 10 glitch, some users report otherwise

Google’s brand-new Pixel 10 series hasn’t had the smoothest start when it comes to Android Auto. Since launch, buyers have flooded Google’s support forums with complaints about the phones refusing to properly connect to in-car infotainment systems. As 9to5Google points out, Google says it has a fix — but reports from the field suggest the problem isn’t fully resolved.

What's going on with Pixel 10s and Android Auto

Or, more importantly, what's not happening

The bug itself is easy to spot: plug a Pixel 10 into your car, and instead of the familiar Android Auto interface, you’re met with a frozen grey screen stamped with the logo watermark. Audio still routes fine — music and phone calls will play — but the interface never appears, leaving navigation and Assistant completely unusable. Some users also report that the phone becomes unresponsive to the power button while Android Auto is active.

This week, Google announced that updating to Android Auto 15.0 or later should resolve the issue. The company’s support team even posted on its official forums, thanking users for their patience and pointing them to the update. Version 15.1 is already in beta for those who want to get ahead.

Unfortunately, the fix hasn’t worked for everyone. Users with vehicles ranging from 2018 Chevy Equinoxes to 2023 VW Golfs say their dashboards still hang on the loading screen, even after installing Android Auto 15.0. A Pixel 10 Pro owner with a Mazda CX-5 described their device as freezing whenever Auto is running. Others with BMWs, Hyundais, and Subarus have echoed the same frustration, with some head units even throwing false error messages about notification settings.

That’s left Pixel 10 buyers in an awkward spot. Some report the bug cleared up after updating, suggesting there may be a server-side tweak still rolling out. Others remain stuck, even on the latest version.

Google has a track record of ironing out Android Auto bugs in the weeks after a flagship launch, but if you rely on Android Auto for navigation or hands-free texting, the wait could feel especially long. For now, Android Auto 15.0 might be worth a shot — just don’t be surprised if your commute is still stuck on that grey screen.
