Google’s surprise Pixel 11 update leaves the new features for later

Your brand-new Google Pixel 11 is getting a surprise software update, but it’s not the one you’ve been waiting for. Google announced the September Android Drop at the beginning of the month, but the OTA has yet to start rolling out. If you were expecting this update to finally bring those new features to your phone, you’ll have to wait a little longer. This release is a much smaller one, focused on fixes rather than new features.

Pixel 11 owners on Reddit report receiving a 96–98MB update carrying the CD1A.260905.001.B1 build number with an early September 2026 security patch. The release notes offer no specifics, stating only that "this update fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of your device."

This is actually the second update Pixel 11s are receiving this month. Google rolled out an A1 build for its latest Pixels right at the start of the month.

The company apparently pulled that update, though, which could explain why it is now rolling out the B1 build so soon. And even if you installed that A1 build, your new Pixel will still get the new B1 update.

In any case, none of the updates bring any user-facing changes. It could be that Google is tackling some major underlying bugs or security issues with these quick updates before it rolls out Android 17 QPR1 for the Pixel 11 family. Even older Pixels are still waiting for the QPR1 update.

Is Google silently fixing all the reported Pixel 11 bugs?

Pixel 11 users have reported various issues with the phone, including an annoying crackling noise in videos. So, there are certainly some bugs that Google needs to take care of as a priority. Does this update fix them? That's hard to say right now, and it's something that only Google or Pixel 11 owners can answer.

The OTA packages are already available on Google's developer website, so if you have not received this new B1 build, you can always manually sideload it. But before that, check if the update is already available on your device from Settings > System > Software updates.
