Samsung Galaxy S25 and S24 pick up the July security update

by · Android Police

Samsung and Google are always among the first to update their devices to the latest monthly security patch. However, Google's July update for Pixel devices was an unusual one — it didn't include any new security patches. That's not the case with Samsung's July 2025 security patch, which the company has started rolling out for the Galaxy S25 and S24 series.

The July 2025 firmware for Samsung's current and last-gen flagships contains patches for 40 security vulnerabilities, including one marked as critical. There's also one patch from Samsung Semiconductor, which you can find more details about here. For now, the Galaxy S25 and S24's July update is live in South Korea (via SamMobile).

The AYF6 firmware for the Galaxy S25 weighs around 538MB, while the S24's BYF1 firmware is a 468MB download. Given the relatively small size, don't expect these updates to contain anything more than patches for the reported security vulnerabilities. Both devices get a new v5 bootloader with the July build, setting the stage for One UI 8's stable release in the future.

With the updated bootloader, Galaxy S25 owners on the One UI 8 beta channel can now also downgrade to One UI 7 from the latest beta build.

Samsung should expand the July patch's availability for the Galaxy S25 and S24 to more regions in the coming weeks and months. If you are in South Korea, grab the update on your phone from Settings > Software update > Download and install.

One UI 8 will be the Galaxy S25's next big update

Samsung's newest foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 — will hit retail stores later this month running Android 16-based One UI 8 out of the box. Plus, given that One UI 8 is already under beta testing for the S25 series, its stable Android 16 build should start rolling out in August. While not as big as One UI 7, it will bring several new features, such as expanded Now Bar access to third-party apps, lock screen wallpaper effects, and the ability to add a dynamic effect to still photos.
